About Me
I am Jonathan Morgan and I have been an Assembly Member since 1999 when I became the youngest AM at the age of 24.
Between 1999 and 2007 I represented the South Wales Central region, covering all of Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Since 2007 I have been the constituency AM for Cardiff North.
I was born and educated in Cardiff and have lived here all my life. As a proud Welshman it was a huge honour to be elected to the National Assembly in 1999, and my election as the AM for Cardiff North in 2007 was the greatest honour in being elected to serve the constituency that is my home.
My family is steeped in local politics. My grandfather Winston Griffiths served as a City and then County Councillor for Whitchurch & Tongwynlais for 22 years and as Deputy Lord Mayor in 1993. My mother and great uncle now serve the same ward.
I am a Law graduate of Cardiff University and hold a Master’s degree in European policy. Before my election to the assembly, I was the European officer for Cardiff’s FE college, Coleg Glan Hafren.
Since 1999, I have had responsibility for the Welsh Conservative Party’s approach to the two most important portfolios – education and health. After serving as education spokesman during the first assembly term I took on the health brief in 2003, which I held for 6 years until February 2009.
Between 2007 and 2009 I Chaired the Assembly’s Health, Well-Being and Local Government Committee
I now Chair the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee.
